Curriculum

At Bures we are committed to teaching a broad and balanced curriculum that is engaging and motivating. We aim to provide memorable learning experiences that the children need to develop key skills, concepts and knowledge so that they are independent and aspirational learners.

Underpinned by our school values, we provide a wide range of opportunities to enrich learning. We ensure they are all provided with the teaching and nurture they need. Our aim is to help all children to become curious, resilient learners who relish new experiences and challenges.

Units of study provide exciting and engaging learning opportunities so that children are curious to explore the various aspects within each subject area. Subjects are taught discretely, whilst relationships are made between concepts to build schemata.

For the academic year 2026-2027, we are using our 'transitional curriculum' where we are moving from pure classes to mixed classes for some subjects. Core subjects (Maths, English, Science and RE) are taught in year groups to ensure progression and coverage is correct for each age group. Our foundation subjects have been carefully sequenced to ensure coverage, without repetition, and challenge for all. Our Transitional Curriculum Maps show the skills and knowledge covered in each unit of study, along with the key vocabulary that will be taught.
