Pupil Premium

Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.

At Bures Primary School we have high expectations for all of our pupils. We plan the expenditure of our Pupil Premium funding based on the context of our school and our pupils' needs, informed by evidence based research.

In addition to the above, we also recognise that a lot of the work we do for our disadvantaged children doesn’t have a direct cost, except that of time. A lot of this work you don’t see; the teachers who walk a child home after school because it means they can attend a club, the additional phone calls with families who need that extra step of communication, the toast for the child who didn’t have time for breakfast or a shoulder to cry on for a mum in need of support. At Bures, this needs to come first so that children are ready to learn when they are in the classroom.
